Session Format – One-to-One
Live instruction with real-time feedback: This is not a pre-recorded course. Sessions are delivered live via Zoom or Google Meet, allowing you to ask questions, receive immediate guidance, and see demonstrations in real time.
Each course is tailored to the tools and workflow of its respective application.
Focus on African block print traditions: The course centres African block printing and stamping traditions, including Adinkra from Ghana, Adire from Nigeria, and Chebka-related geometric patterns from North Africa.
Design principles for relief printing: You will learn the specific requirements of designing for carving—positive and negative space, mirroring, structural integrity, and line weight.
Print-ready template preparation: The course guides you through preparing your digital design for transfer to wood, including sizing, registration marks, and export formats.
Direct link to the companion carving course: This course prepares you for the Wood Carving for Block Print course, where your digital design becomes the template for physical carving.
Small group interaction: Live sessions allow for discussion, peer feedback, and collaborative problem-solving. You learn not only from the instructor but from the questions and work of other participants.

A: This is a live course. Sessions are delivered in real time via Zoom or Google Meet. You will receive session links before each class. Recordings will be available if you miss a session.

A: Yes. A stylus is required for accurate drawing and line control. An Apple Pencil or a pressure-sensitive alternative is strongly recommended.
A: No. This is a professional development offering, not an accredited academic programme. Upon completion, participants receive a Certificate of Participation from Timbuktu Research and Design.
A: No prior experience with block printing is required. Basic familiarity with your chosen app (Procreate or Affinity Designer) is helpful but not mandatory. All instruction is provided.
A: The course is delivered over 3 live sessions, each lasting approximately 90 minutes. Total instruction time is approximately 4.5 hours.
A: Before each session, you will receive a Zoom or Google Meet link via email. You must have the Zoom or Google Meet app installed on your device. Links are also accessible through the course page.
A: Yes. Live sessions include opportunities for real-time feedback. You may also submit completed exercises for instructor review between sessions.
